History Channel name authority(s)

As the cataloguer of non-feature DVDs for my library, I often come across DVDs from the History Channel. Top-notch educational/historical programming.

However… perhaps you are unaware that there are TWO authority records for the History Channel!  On March 20, 2008, The History Channel dropped the “The” and the “Channel” parts of its name to become History. The logos have changed and I have provided both the older and newer versions to act as a visual aid when deciding which authority to use.

both logos

010 __ |a no 96037384

040 __ |a NmU |b eng |c NmU |d IWhN |d DLC |d FMU |d IC |d IAhCCS |d PaPiCLS |d IAhCCS

110 2_ |a History Channel (Television network)

410 2_ |a History Television Network Productions

410 2_ |w nne |a History Channel (Firm)

410 2_ |a History Television Productions

510 2_ |w b |a History (Television network)

You’ll note that the 510 tag in this record has a subfield ‘w’ with the entry ‘b‘ (later form of heading)

Both authority records are valid…. so be careful to match the authority with the date and the item in hand. The best bet would be to reload both authorities so that all appropriate see also references are in place
